This phenomenon might explain in part how hyperleptinemia could be accompanied by obesity (partial loss of appetite and metabolic actions of leptin) but still contribute to sympathetic overactivity and hypertension because of preservation of the sympathetic actions of leptin to some organs involved in blood pressure regulation (e.g., kidney).
